The new wave of Oregon-Big Ten discussion is lacking in significance

 After initial speculation in July, rebalancing has slowed dramatically in recent weeks. We do not see any major movements or changes in the rebalancing process or the national university sports map.

What has changed in the last few weeks? Indeed, the Big Ten announced a media rights package, but that hasn't changed Notre Dame's incentives. Increased possibility. With both Notre Dame and the Big Ten under NBC's umbrella, there's no reason for the Irish to switch conferences and split the revenue pie. You can stay at NBC and make top dollar and don't have to share your earnings.

Fox and the Big Ten are very picky about adding other schools, so keeping Notre Dame independent will slow the pace of the reorganization.This doesn't mean there won't be another reorganization.2026 told us to expect more moves as new postseason plans begin (what the outcome will be) and the college football playoffs come to an end...an immediate move.

Reports that Oregon (Phil Knight) is talking to the Big Ten reveal nothing new. Of course Dax talks to the Big Ten! That doesn't mean the business is over. It means that the parties make their positions clear. that's all.

There's no indication that these discussions will bring any noticeable twists or turns to the plot any time soon.

The Big 12 didn't poach the Pac-12 schools over the summer, so there's no immediate drama in the regrouping now. Enjoy a real soccer game.
